I have nothing but respect for the founders of ThinkOrSwim. They set out with a dream in ’99 & passionately perused it until they were consolidated into the major leagues of brokerage firms. Simply business. Great innovators eventually get snatched by slower moving, larger competitors. One of the most impressive parts of this endeavor is that ThinkOrSwim pulled this off in approximately 10 years. Not too shabby if you ask me.
The acquisition of ThinkOrSwim by TD Ameritrade finally closed today, June 11th, 2009. I personally loved the ThinkOrSwim platform. I can’t remember exactly how I stumbled across their site. I’m sure it was related to staying up really late and landing on a webpage that was different!
I’m sad to see the monkey mascot go as well as the Quarterly magazine. Maybe these will revive when TD Ameritrade takes over.
Maybe not because monkeys & boardroom don’t feel like the fit well together….. part of the magic in ThinkOrSwim. I hope the folks at TD Ameritrade enbale these guys with some major capitol & let them really shakeup the industry.
